Question 4 | Evaluation
How have you used technology in the pre production, production, postproduction and evaluation of your work?
Click on the items in the gallery to learn more about how the technology was used.
Research / Planning / Evaluation - Wix was arguably the most useful technology I used in the entire project, without it, this website wouldn't even exist. As many flaws as Wix has, it is still useful when logging information and notes from this project.
Evaluation - I used Prezi in order to answer an evaluation question, the reason I used it was because I have experience using it before (A Level Foundation Production) and I find it a reliable media source for presenting information. The reason I enjoy using Prezi is because I find that information can be made slightly more interesting when it is interactive for the user and aesthetically pleasing.
Planning - Google Maps was used to look further into locations we had in mind when planning. It was easier for us to use than actually travelling to the locations first as we could use a computer during school time to plan. This was especially useful when we had the idea of a location that was 30 minutes travel in a car from us, as we could have a detailed look into the kind of sub-locations we could shoot at.
Evaluation - I used Piktochart for answering one of the questions of the evaluation. I found it very useful as I was able to answer the question and create an aesthetically pleasing design at the same time.
Post Production - Adobe Premiere Pro was the software we used in the majority of our editing process, it is extremely user friendly and with some knowledge it is extremely easy to assemble rough edits and then continue to fine tune from there. The majority of the time we spent using premiere pro was the syncing of audio and visuals, this is a length process as the song must match up with the performers lip syncing, else the entire project would be aesthetically displeasing.
Research / Planning / Post Production (Final Product Upload) - I used YouTube to research some music videos at first, as I was not entirely sure what to look for, also using it to try to decide on a song to use for our production. This was useful due to the vast amount of videos and music videos by almost any artist that can be found. The final product was also uploaded on YouTube which meant that it could be accessed by almost anyone, this is useful to us as it can be accessed easily.
Post Production - Adobe After Effects was often used for the fine tuning side of things. When a shot needed stabilizing, we would link a composition through After Effects and then warp stabilize it or use the necessary effects to fix the shot, some colour grading was also done in After Effects
Research - I used Vimeo to research music videos for analysis. Primarily using it to discover as many music videos as I could and then filtering the list of those music videos to the ones I wanted to analyse. When deciding on which music videos to analyse, I was mainly interested in finding the unique music videos, the videos that included interesting techniques that I could analyse and stood out from the mainstream music videos. This is how I used Vimeo, as I knew the site was less mainstream.
During the ancillary stage of the project, I used Photoshop to design and create, along with the media players I used to get screen grabs of the music video. I also imported a template into Photoshop in order to place the photos in the correct areas to design the digipak. With my knowledge of graphic design, I also designed a logo for the artist using Photoshop which was placed on the front cover and the alternative cover of the digipak, in different colours, shading etc.
