Question 2  | Evaluation

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I attempted to create a link between the music video and the ancillaries as much as possible, this was to make it recognisable to audiences, as well as give the same kind of feel to the ancillaries that we had with the music video.

The Digipak includes photos of both actors which are on separate covers of the digipak, the front cover being a photo of the main performer/actor (James Racine) featured heavily in the music video. This is so that the front cover will make the digipak very recognisable and also linking to the original video, gives the music video and the digipak, an identity. The photos of the main performer reflect the darker, lower key parts of the song and music video, and the photos of the chorus performer (Josh Van Leeuwen) reflect the high key, lighter side of the song and music video.

I made a decision to use two front covers, one being in front of the other, so when the front cover is opened, it reaveals the alternative front cover to the digipak. For the first front cover I attempted to go for a minimalistic style, being only an artist logo (G-Eazy) that I designed for the cover. This logo is a cutout, so that part of the alternative front cover can be seen through the logo. I created this front cover so that the artist name is clearly seen, creating a link between the music and digipak, also taking inspiration from a digipak I researched (The xx digipak) I designed this front cover. The alternative front cover (behind the 1st front cover) shows the main performer in a photo from the original music video, along with another artist logo, this establishes the identity of the artist to link again to the artist and the music video. Including the alternative cover, was a decision I made so that it could be seen as a bonus feature of the digipak, which is a very common feature of many digipaks, and can often include bonus songs, artwork etc.
